James "Jim" Anthony Dorr Pollock
James Pollock passed peacefully into heaven on June 30, 2018 at Avalon at StoneRidge in Mystic, Connecticut. He was a Florida resident but spent half of each year in Mystic, CT and Block Island, RI with his life partner, Barbara MacDougall.
In addition to Barbara, he is survived by two children, Julie (Mike) Hopkins of Lewis, DE and Geoffrey (Sharon) Pollock, of Indianapolis, IN, six step-children, Townsend Coleman, Shelby Rogerson, Tina (Mike) Owen, John (Eiko) Heffron, Mara (Joel) Browndorf, Cynthia Thornton as well as grandson Christopher (Amy) Hovden and granddaughters Hannah Pollock and Elyssa (Scott) Middleton and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by grandson, Lucius Pollock and three wives, Mary Low "Pat" Armstrong, Anne Pollock and Sally Pollock.
Jim lived in New York City until 1957. He attended The Pawling School (Pawling, NY), Rumsey Hall (Cornwall, CT) and Choate (Wallingford, CT). After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1946, he enrolled at Brown University under the GI Bill, graduating in 1951.
He joined Lever Brothers after graduation. Later he joined General Foods, which he left in 1976 to form Karr-Dorr Foods. Later he started Target Sales Management (TSM), an independent sales company and later founded Granitaur Marketing. He fully retired in 2014.
Jim may be best remembered for his sense of humor and love of good jokes and funny stories. He was a lifelong golfer and NY Yankees fan. He was an avid puzzler, completing the NY Time crossword puzzle every day until June 27, 2018. He volunteered at the Lord's Place and in lieu of Christmas gifts to his family, he donated funds to several charities, including the Lord's Place, Oxfam and Smile Train.
He and Barbara became life partners after the passing of her sister, Sally, in 2013. He first met Barbara in 1952 in New York City and 56 years later he contacted her again. It was Barbara who introduced Jim to Sally and they were married in 2009.
A celebration of life service will be held on November 20, 2018 at the Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Lord's Place (thelordsplace.org), an organization in West Palm Beach dedicated to ending homelessness, and the Royal Poinciana Chapel (royalpoincianachapel.org) are requested.
